Craft Fayre at the Cyncoed Methodist Church

Our Xmas Craft Fayre was held at Westminster Hall with the Cyncoed Methodist Church complex on Cyncoed Road on Saturday 13th December.

The Hall itself is of a good size and they are able to supply us with the use of good sized tables and  an adequate amount of chairs.

An added bonus is the use of a serving hatch in the hall that provides a kitchen area with a hot water boiler for making tea and coffee. As you know  we don’t charge our stall holders for refreshments but we did charge our Customers £1 for tea/coffee and some biscuits.  (We made £15 in drink sales).  Shazia and Lainey dispensed the hot drinks to  happy customers.

Via the group and our Committee we had done our best to advertise the Fayre  as well  as we could both through online options and by use of displaying our Posters around community areas , shops and businesses.  We had also put out advertising signs outside the Church very early on the Saturday morning indicating that there would be a Fayre going on later that day.

Catherine reported that a few people had notified her that they had to cancel their booking so we were a few tables down on the day, it did mean that present stall holders could spread out a little and use a second table to display their wares.

Hilary did a grand job manning the “Donations table” and raised £48 for our Charity.  She also supported Sheila Pessall with the raffle which raised a further £50.  Sheila Craig was a demon on the Tombola stall and raised £40.  Some kind Samaritan gave us a £20 donation towards our charity.  Craftaholics Accounts will be forthcoming but at a rough estimate (after costs] a total of about £230 was made on the day for our Charity.

We certainly were up against a lot of competition as we learned that there were at least another 6 craft Fayres operating locally on the same  day as ours so it was not surprising that footfall was not as busy as we would have liked. Having said that the atmosphere in the hall was buzzy and people were buying items from our crafters.

Our talented crafters set out their tables so well and it never ceases to amaze us  just how high the  standard and quality of the items are that they produce.

Feedback from stall holders would be welcome .

Christmas Dinner

Once again the Craftaholics enjoyed a superb Christmas meal at the Pendragon Pub in Thornhill.

We were a group of 17 and 3 of our group had dietary restrictions which the Pub kindly provided alternative suitable food for which we are sure wasn’t easy on such a busy night so we must offer our grateful thanks to the kitchen staff for accommodating that .

We had pre-booked our meals so we arrived at the Pub to find that our large table was beautifully laid up for us with cheery red tablecloth and Christmas decorations to include crackers. It looked very inviting and a good start to our annual Christmas celebration meal.

Our group mostly opted for the traditional turkey meal with all the trimmings.

The food was delicious. The turkey was moist and succulent. The vegetables were tasty and we were spoilt with the variety : carrots, red cabbage, sprouts,

Broccoli stems, all pipping hot and served in hot serving dishes.  Cranberry sauce and lashings of tasty gravy,  roast potatoes and a Yorkshire completed the meal.  All in all an excellent meal which we all thoroughly enjoyed.

Dessert options were Christmas pudding, apple pie both provided with generous amounts of creamy custard or ice cream. Both were delicious and rounded off the meal in style.

Our thanks must go to the serving staff who looked after us so well on the night.  Nothing was too much trouble and their  hard work ensured that we all enjoyed a splendid evening.

Thank you Pendragon for a great night.  We will be back next year!
